{"id":255,"date":"2012-08-08T12:10:08","date_gmt":"2012-08-08T12:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jnlyman.com\/blog\/?p=255"},"modified":"2013-10-12T01:47:17","modified_gmt":"2013-10-12T01:47:17","slug":"the-concrete-slab-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jnlyman.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/08\/the-concrete-slab-project\/","title":{"rendered":"The concrete slab project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After the planning as to just where the slab will be placed, the form must be made.\u00a0 With the materials of the 1X4 inch boards and a level, one can be assured that the final product will be flat and fairly close to being level.\u00a0 The next step was to spread some loose gravel in the area where the cement was to be placed and tamp it down\u00a0to form a fairly flat, firm base.\u00a0 Then comes the mixing and pouring of the cement.\u00a0 As there was no wheel barrel available, the cement was\u00a0 mixed in a large pot with the use of a power drill and a hoe.\u00a0 Pouring the cement was no issue as long as it was loose enough (had sufficient water content).\u00a0 After the pour came\u00a0the smoothing of the top,\u00a0 as a final step a 1\/8 th pre-cut piece of wood was wedged into the poured slab.\u00a0 The reason for the piece of wood was to prevent cracking after cured.
